For use with the Passion HD Receiver Only

The EPG is now working.

If you leave EPG on for 10-20mins it will start to populate.
If you leave in stand-by over night, it will fully populate.

To turn 7 Day EPG On or Off, goto Menu -> Other Settings.

Thanks Laurals, was wondering when this was going to be released after you mentioned it in the other part of the forum.

Just done the installation now, all ran smoothly.

Left the box on for 10 minutes or so, and i got some more data loading, will leave longer as you said. After 10 minutes, i have from now to Sunday loaded...

One thing though, we have lost the small screen in the top right corner. Used to show the program, but now shows 'Fortec Star, Program Guide' Any chance the channel preview type thing will be back in future updates?

All in all, brilliant update from Fortec Star. Makes this box even better, thanks for the hard work! Keep it up.

If enough of you request it to be brought back, I shall ask if it can be re-implimented.

Thanks for Laurals, not really much of a problem to me. Was just something i noticed and i did like, and i'm sure many others did as well.

Also another problem i have just noticed is that, when i am on another satellite, ie. 19.2e, and access the EPG the notice comes up on screen that it is moving back to the 28.2 Astra satellite, and the dish moves.

Something that may need to be looked at for future updates.

If you turn off the seven day guide the picture in the top right corner comes back and the channels stay in order

I don't think it will be possible to have the viewing screen in the top right when in 7-day mode as the extended EPG data is transmitted on a single transponder. As the receiver only has one tuner it can't show a live stream and download EPG data at the same time.

this is a great update.
big thanks to fortec for the outstanding support, can't believe people were complaining about support a few months ago.

Thanks for the update. Nice to have more info available and a nice new splash screen too ¤|

One thing I've spotted: before when you launched EPG and you were in one of your favourites lists it would just show that selection, but now I notice that as soon as EPG is selected it defaults to the entire channel listing. Is there any way in a future release this could be restricted to your selected favourites?

Cheers and thanks again!

Well done Thanks!

Thanks for the update.

I agree with Delsutton, very annoying if i'm in a fav list and press epg that it takes me to the full channel list.

You people do understand the meaning of beta firmware I presume, if any of you are looking for stable firmware, then you should not download and install these beta versions. To put into prespective, beta firmware is a test release to check for problems, we expect to receive errors associated with almost each release.
Only when the errors have been addressed, will the release become official, and more stable.
All those who leave feedback, regarding an error found associated with a release, are in fact helping to improve the firmware, that's why good beta testers are hard to come by, many just download the firmware, and we never hear anything from them, or they just tend to agree with what's been already posted, which is of little help to anyone.

I can't get mine to update the EPG further than now and next in the basic EPG screen or the 7-day one. Had it in standby overnight, still no go.

Have the top right viewing screen OK.

Dish on 28E, EPG On - do I need Power Search on?

It makes no difference, wheather the Power Search is set On or Off, I found that BBC HD, was one of the first channels to fully populate the EPG.

Try doing a Factory Re-set, and select the Reginal Channel option, that may help.

Sounds like you haven't got the feature turned on.

Go into Menu -> Other Settings. And check 7 Day EPG is set On or Off.

bugs I've found (28.2E only fixed dish):

occasional loss of sound on channel up/down hopping (comes back by going up and back).
BBC3 and BBC4 EPG doesn't appear (only Cbeebies and CBBC), they are a shared channel effectively.

I also have the occasional loss of audio when channel hopping as well.

Haven't had any other bugs with this firmware though and this has been a very useful feature addition to the receiver.

Can I confirm something about the update? Do you need to leave the Passion switched on forever to keep the listings?

I ask only because I've just checked mine and they've all disappeared having downloaded them perfectly over the weekend - I switched off the box last night. It's beginning to repopulate again now it's been on a while.

laurals53

Just leave it in Standy mode, and it should be okay, which is simular to a Sky Box, which can not be turned Off completely, unless of course you disconect the power supply.

Sorry, I meant to say it was switched to standby, not off completely. That's why I was wondering as I thought it should be retained. Is there something else I may have set that would account for this?

As long as you set the 7 Day EPG to On, it should be okay, there again the clocks went back an hour, due to the end of British Summertime, so it's quite possable that had an adverse effect on the EPG.

Yes, that's definitely on. Maybe it was the hour change but it seemed OK yesterday after I'd altered the time, but then again I hadn't switched to standby at that stage. I'll try it again tomorrow after an overnight rest for the poor machine :stopwatch:

Just being playing around on P*em*er and noticed that the audio track no2 which normally contains english language is silent.
There is additional audio setting for dolby digital I note but in german language. With regard to the seven day EPG on Astra28 - once a factory reset is done after installing, leave on a channel say BBC1 for 10 -15 minutes and four days EPG loads up. Leave on over night and a full seven days loads. The issue with the favourites resorting back to the all channel listing is not consistent for all favourites. For example on news you stay on the news favourites but on general entertainment I agree it reverts back to the full chanel list. Hope this feedback helps.

Excellent release keep up the good work.

I have noticed the following after the update:

I use a viaccess and Dragon with 2 subbed cards (both viaccess). While hopping channels, it goes silent on the encrypted ones eventhough the card is legitimate. I dont see this problem on non encrypted channels. The same channel is FTA for one hour each day and sound seems to be okay during this time.

I have had atleast 2 re-boots in the past 4 days. Dont know if i can put it down to the firmware... previous one didnt havethis problem.

Also, EPG seems to be building on ITV, premiere and a few other channels but not on BBC channels where current and next programs are the only ones shown.

There is a red button option for "recording" in the epg menu. Wonder why they left it for the passion if usb recording cannot be done with it ?

Otherwise the 7day epg is a good feature to have.

OK, have tried it again this morning and it was OK... until I had a reboot a couple of minutes later and everything disappeared again.

Also, just looking at the 7 day view do you have any plans to implement the program reminder option for this? It works on the normal view OK but it would be really useful across the whole range of days, if possible.

This option is to auto set the timer, useful.

I have gone back to 118 and this problem has gone. Laurals, would appreciate if you can pass this on to fortecstar.

Since installing this firmware the reciever has rebooted itself at least once a day when changing channels, also has the reported issue of not having sound on some channels that can be rectified by going up the down channels.

I expericenced these two bugs

Fossa - am I missing something here, in terms of downloading an official release of the firmware? According to URL http://www.fortecstar.com/downloads/index.asp?products=101%2C1 the 24/07/08 release is still listed for the Passion.

TIA

I've been running the update since last Friday. Overall, I'm happy with it, but there have been some problems, all of which have been reported already. Here's what I've seen:

1. It doesn't seem to be quite as stable as before. I'm experiencing far more unexpected reboots (when changing channel and scanning for channels) than before. Unfortunately I lose all the saved EPG data with each reboot.

2. When on satellites other than 28E, pressing the EPG button (I often accidentally hit it rather than Fav.) causes the motor to move the dish to 28E. It also means I can't view the EPG for Prem1ere channels.

I haven't experienced the audio problem that some others here have reported.

This is a really promising update and has been worth waiting for. Hopefully the issues we've been having can be ironed out in time. Thanks to all involved. :good:

firmware p_av120_20081022 is now officialy on FortecStar site
Fortec has now released new firmware for all their HD models.
The main changes are to the EPG, Playback and Timeshift interuptions that were present, depending upon which model you have of course.

The EPG will still requires approx 20 minutes on the first boot up, to have the majority of the data displayed simply leave the receiver in standby mode over night.

Sorry for the late reply, but I have been experiancing computer problems, which hopefully has now been sorted. :good:
