View Full Version : Sound Problem on Innovation

Is anyone else having problems with their Innovation failing to produce the sound track after changing channel? I've only had this receiver for a few days, but this bug has become more apparent over the weekend - often, when changing to a channel on a different satellite (or a different package?), the receiver will display the picture without the sound. Sometimes the sound track will start after a few seconds delay, but usually it is necessary to change to an adjacent channel and back again to kick start the sound. This happens regardless of whether the desired channel is FTA or encrypted (but never occurred on the Passion).

Other annoyances are its near certainty of doing a reboot during any form of channel scan after it has been switched on for more than a couple of minutes (worse than the Passion for this), and the occasional frozen picture / receiver lock up (I can't remember the Passion ever doing this).

I'd like to know if these faults are common, and will probably be sorted by firmware fixes, or if I've got a duff item which needs to be returned.

mine has the sound problem only when changing satellites but clears after a few seconds.mine has never re-booted when scanning for new channels but i dont scan for channels very often.i also had an instance of receiver lockup and i also had that on the passion.hopefully there will be a firmware fix, have you e-mailed tech support at fortec?

I've never had any audio problems on my Innovation. I use audio via HDMi and the analogue phono audio out. Never use SCART.

I've had the reboots when scanning.

The most serious fault I've had no picture and sound when changing channels with full signal on FTA & encrypted channels, which seems to be caused by overheating of the Innovation, possibly caused by the 2.3 Diablo CAM which always gets very hot.
After switching off at the mains for a minute the picture and sound returns.

Thanks for the replies - it looks like I'm not alone. I think I'll wait a couple of days to see if any more replies come in, then send the lot to Fortec to see what they can do about them.

The first Innovation I acquired from the Fortec offer is fine but a second one I bought from Maplins for another room has all the problems you describe. Odd!

I had another problem last night.

Was watching True Movies 2 on 28E when suddenly lost all signal.

All other channels also had no signal. (I have a 1m dish)

Switched off at main power, then back on, and signal returned ok.

I have just loaded the latest firmware I_av107_20080825 and will see if this helps with all the problems.

Yep, I can confirm the Maplin Innovation will suddenly display no signal but after a switch off/on it comes back. I have the latest software installed. I think I'll reload it to see if the problems go away.

I wonder if the recent batch of receivers uses some different components which could account for the differences with the original one I purchased which does not suffer from any of these problems. I believe many manufacturers obtain components from the spot market which means every batch of products is likely to be slightly different.

I notice Laurals does not seem to suffer from these annoying problems which could also be due to his receiver being from the first batch??

Of course, all this assumes there has been more than one batch of receivers made?

Dash - I had the same thing whilst watching a film on 19.2E last night as well, and had to power off to reset the box. E2R's suggestion of a batch problem certainly has merit, but only Fortec would be able to verify it, I suppose. One thing I have discovered in the last couple of days, though, is that setting Auto PMT to [OFF] on your Diablo makes a big difference to the speed of channel changes (as it should), and this in turn greatly reduces the incidence of "no sound" after the picture decodes. There definitely seems to be a correlation between the length of time the receiver is silent whilst changing satellites or encrypted channels, and the incidence of the sound failing to appear - it's as if the receiver just "forgets" to restart the sound if it has been off for more than a few seconds - which is probably correctable by a firmware update (I hope).

I have just updated to Beta 107 firmware and now have a similar problem with the sound. If I move t a new satellite then I lose the sound until I change to another channel then back again. Also if the cam is slow in clearing the channel then again no sound. I have found that if there are alternative language options then choosing one of these then back again to english the sound will work again. Also tried with the cam removed but still have the same problem.

Thanks, Oldmanz. The evidence of an inherent fault is beginning to mount.
