Hi there,
Just how good is this receiver? Should I sell my Homecast 5101 HD receiver and get one?
It appears that with the patched firmware I dont need a Diablo cam anymore, is this correct?
Will I get all the same channels, or more even?
How good is the PVR/EPG function compared to Sky?
Cheers!

At the moment you will not realy require any cam for use with the CT HD 5000, but as I'm sure you are already aware this can change, I would definatly not dispose of the Diablo cam.
As for changing from the Homecast too a CT, that's a choice only you can make, the Homecast is still a realy capable receiver, when used in conjunction with a cam such as a Diablo, the receiver as your aware also supports a realy good sensative tuner, the CT do offer more options though, such as USB capabillities for upgrading and playing MP3 files, Jpegs, and also supports PVR, the EMU function is almost identical to that already used on the TM1000 series, you can edit, add or delete keys via the onboard key editor which also includes Biss keys.
EPG and PVR functions are realy easy to use and works as one would expect, I have not experianced any cause for consern from either, but regarding the PVR, if you use a USB stick for recording, you will experiance some pausing during the recording of HD channels, this I can only presume is due to the buffer size, no freezing will be evident if using an external HD, the pausing one gets when recording an HD channel via a stick, will not be present during the playback of the recorded programme.

Thanks for that reply mate - very useful indeed! I just cant decide if it would be better for me to wait and see if the DM8000 or Lyngbox eventually appear?! The only problem is I could be waiting forever!!!?

Chances are that TM will have a HD Linuxbox out before the Dream 8000
The main problem with waiting in this hobby is you can wait forever.. There is never a good time or bad time to buy...
If you wait for a HD Linuxbox you may wait sometime..
If you just wanna watch HD channels then the Clarke Tech or Technomate version will do a similar job (coz there are basically the same box)
If you want to watch lots of channels then the current batch of Linuxboxes will do that in a larger way than a patched stb (assuming you get into card sharing)
The Linuxboxes will also open the same channels as patched boxes by using emu's and keys. The TM9100 now has the edge over the DM500S Dreambox due to the arrival of a stable image at last..
So the race is on now TM Vs Dreambox forthe first Linux HD Box..
One thing that is worth remembering, there is approx 6000 channels viewable from the UK, how many of these are HD ??? Is it worth chasing something that doesnt really exsist yet....

Sound advice as ever matey. I suppose I will just go for the Tm9100 and enjoy a whole lot of HD channels until a good HD receiver comes along and there is more choice of HD channels. As you say there is hardly anything available at the min!
TM9100 here I come :)
